About Us

Our Story

Towson Tavern, which opened in January of 2012, is a Scratch Kitchen with a globally inspired menu featuring the best locally grown & raised ingredients from the Maryland & Mid Atlantic region.  The restaurant's name pays homage to its Colonial precursor, which was a well loved watering hole for traveling farmers, run by Ezekiel Towson in the 1760s.

The Tavern serves a menu of ever evolving and unique American regional cuisine along side a premium line of wine, spirits, and an extensive craft beer selection. From tasty appetizers and light fare to filling dishes and decadent deserts, our cuisine is sure to satisfy your appetite for a delicious experience.

Our People

Towson Tavern is owned by Brian and Scott Recher who also own the neighboring Rec Room and Torrent Lounge.  The restaurant is run by Michael Velleggia (previously with The Capital Grille) and features the cuisine of Executive Chef Josh Vecchiolla (previously with Parts & Labor and Woodberry Kitchen).

Farm to Table

Towson Tavern relies on the unique harvest from local farms, dairies, apiaries and small batch producers from across the Chesapeake bay area to create their one of a kind local and seasonal fare.

Chesapeake Farm to Table's mission is to help build more economically viable, sustainable, small-scale farms in the Chesapeake region through education programming and improved access to local foods.

They run a farmer-owned, cooperatively managed online farmers market for purchasing high-quality, local and sustainably-grown produce and artisan foods used by many of the best chefs and restaurants in town, including the Towson Tavern.

Chesapeake Farm to Table sources from 20+ farms throughout the Cheasapeake Bay Region. Over 50% of those farms are USDA Certified Organic and all grow using sustainable practices.
